Just a thought!

When you leave your land  uncultivated, what grows on it? Weed, or apple???????….

Why do people get more negative thoughts than positive? Because negative thoughts comes automatically….

It is because God made us that way? Or simply because it takes an effort to develop a positive thought?

Just pondering aloud…dunno if I will get the answers to all these questions.

I am watching Roger Federer play and that too after a long time….I feel at peace. I am watching him fight throughout, fight with his low self confidence, fight against a strong  opponent just as a random brainwave made me think these things. My neighbor is playing an apt hymn:

Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning…..give me oil in my lamp I pray.Give me oil in my lamp keep me burning burning burning…keep me burning till the end of day“.

Mumbai and the Indians

My neighbor is playing  ” All things bright and beautiful, all creatures big and small….All starts bright and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.

And guess what, I am now reading how Mr. Raj Thackerey and his MNS played an important role in the recently concluded General Elections , 2009 or  #indiavotes09 like its more popular. What I found interesting in the new emergence of MNS as a stronger ‘Sena’ than any that ever existed is that it turned the fate of existing ’so called’ sarkar-raj upside down, allowing the Congress and the NCP to make small break aways especially in Mumbai and Thane. When Raj headed out of the Shiv Sena after claiming to have found his passion in salvaging the Marathi Pride, no one would have thought that the MNS can stand tall on a very electrifying performance in the polls. Though the Shiv Sena seems to be flagging under the soft-spoken Uddhav, while Raj is the new Pinch Hitter, the cosmopolitan image of ‘ the city i d like to be in right now’ (Mumbai) seems to be up against an odd chalenge. Raj might have asked for the ‘ChhatPuja’ to be stopped in Maharashtra, or Marathi Boards and Hoardings be put everywhere or the North Indians be damned for the ill fortunes of the city, but one thing is for sure……he is hereto stay!

Speaking of Mumbai, I was ardently supporting the Mumbai Indians this IPL. Cant help it, I grew up watching Sachin Tendulkar grow…sometimes your loyalties grow with you and you are not even aware. Even though I consider Hyderebad to be my hometown, and since I work in Bangalore…it was not a very very hard decision for me to support the Deccan Chargers once the Tendulkar Brigade were ousted. Now that the IPL is finally over, and I get back 1900 hrs to 2330 hrs of my everyday life…i look back at what the IPL has done, and I tell you it is tremendous. Even though the competition was shifted to a different country altogether, it did not deter the fans to emotionally connect to their franchise, which is by far the most vital factor in such an event. Kudos to the SouthAfrican people!!! The first season an exciting affair when the team which was the least expected to win took away all the glory, and the second season topped all the excitement when the ‘last two teams’ from season one fought it out for the Gold…boy o boy!! Another highlight of the second season was that the typical ‘it is a big-hitters game’ notion was shed to a small extent, when the cold weather, frozen-hands-dropping-catches and some quality spin bowling changed many a games at crucial junctures. Hyper-commercialization was slightly controlled this year, with the television viewers being lucky to see the ball actually leave the bat and reach the fence, and then began the ‘ZooZoo‘ ads, tell me about controlled broadcasting!!!!

O great! Now my neighbours playing..” There shall be showers of blessings, this is the promise of love….“  So let me stop at this note. Dont forget to check out my HomePage : http://www.sidharth.me/

Green Index !!!!!

I was pondering over a lazy monday morning, while reading through my google reader entries on the Stock Marketand the rise and fall of the “Legend”…ahh…wait for it….”dary”………..’Index’, and also about how the human life advancements have threatened the Globe and day-by-day making it a difficult place to survive. Just then, the idea of an index that would actually calculate the amount of greenery around struck my mind. too bad I did not think about this much earlier. And today morning I got my usual newsletter from NatGeo and here it was…………Greendex ( Some coincidence..for a moment I just sat awestruck ).

Greendex is a novel concept ( not quite as I first though it to be…but hey….its awesome!!!). It actually is an index based on the survey of the ‘Environmentally Sustainable Consumption’ in approx 14 countries. India and Brazil were tied at the first place with a Greendex of 60, which gave a fair picture of consumer behavior and material lifestyle. The survey actually preferred to follow a unique method of grading or calculating the index to rank the performance of individual consumers, rather than countries as a whole…unlike other measures that rank countries according to the environmental performance of their governments, companies and other factors. This is what makes Greendex truly unique and very appealing.

Global ‘Brain’ Warming

With a lot that is being said these days about global warming, i suddenly came across an article that suggested the these rise in temperatures can actually be harmful to the generic living being, and that too on a global perspective. Warmer temperatures would imply that the disease carrying insects like the deer ticks that are responsible for carrying the Lyme Disease, are not killed by the colder weather. Within the prevalent warmer air, the summer and spring would start earlier and the plant and trees would then produce more pollen meaning more itchy eyes and more sneezing….wooooooaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!! :O Never thought about this chain of event. :D

Also, a general and conventional way of thinking is that countries like Canada and Greenland that are closest to the Arctic and would inevitable see the sea levels rise as a result of global warming, speculations are taking the rounds that these warmer temperatures will open up new avenues of revenue, including oil drilling ( schlumbuggers…enjoy maadi) along with other new mining opportunities and expanded farming seasons that will most definitely aid the agricultural development. The ones that miss out are countries like Kenya that are already facing the brunt of the Sun’s heat. Also, while the ozone layer hole is located in one part of the planet, places like the Arctic pole and Antarctica, where animals like the huge Walruses live, are equally threatened by the thinning ozone layer, since the Sun would shine stronger and hence the ice melt would be rapid.

Talking about Walruses, as the ice closest to southern shallow water melts, walruses have to move north into deeper waters to find new homes. Sadly, mother walruses have to leave their babies to find food, and scientists are reporting an increasing number of abandoned walrus calves, which are likely to drown or starve while their mothers are away. Aaaaaaah!!!!! Sad.

Another common misnomer would be that the green house gases are the sole reason for the “eventual” destruction of the arctic. According to studies, the soot from burning coal, inefficient cook stoves and forest fires is carried up to the Arctic, where it darkens the snow. The dark snow then absorbs sunlight,
more so than clean snow, and radiates more heat back into the air. The study has theorized that this effect has contributed anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 degrees C of the Arctic’s overall 1.6 degree temperature increase. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is key to stopping warming across the globe,  but reducing particulate air pollution is important for the health of the Arctic.

Wooow…thinking about what could happen really sends chills down my spine. Here is what we could all do….’tips to fight global warming‘. And hope that some intelligent solutions is soon sought for this menace that is starting at our face, eagerly waiting to engulf us all……

Radio ‘ed

I used to walk almost 8Km from office to home some days. I never knew, until few days ago, that the Radio played a very important part in allowing me to do so. With the new “Mantra” that the radio stations of Bangalore are now implementing ( ooo u dint know….very few Hindi Songs amidst a flurry of regional ones), its like I have been waiting impatiently for that ‘one’ song to play and then forget about it for another hour.

I wonder why this sudden change or bias towards the regional language…? Elections? naaaah…..i dont think so because they are over now and also the political scenario within itself is pretty screwed up, as the papers illustrate. Suddenly, yesterday i saw a huge poster of a certain Radio station that emphasized at the minimal Hindi maximum Regional transmissions, and I felt that I was in some sort a lingual sewage pipe ( wanted to write shit hole instead). One thing I do not understand is why in a huge and diversified country like ours, people are sometimes alienated even within their legitimate boundaries. The place that I now live in , is full of people who would understand what I say, but will respond to me in inscrutable and awestruck ways, cmmmon Dude, gimme a break!!!!!!.

And now, this linguistic frustrations and feelings ( like those prevalent in other parts of the country right now) have gained so much of an importance and hog the limelight, and have taken their positions in the illustrious “lunch time” discussions as well. I am not sure where this is leading us….what will happen in due course of time. But one thing I know for sure is, I am not gonna put on my Radio again , also partly because i do not like to shuffle stations when there are songs or ads that I would not wish to listen: like a friend often does; and just put on some “thump – thump” and walk home ( if it doesn’t rain). So, its one listener lesser in your pool oooo divine RJ!!!!!

Wish you a very happy B’Day SLN

Blogger at(tention)

What do i mean by this heading above? Well i guess i can only try to explain you with all my might (and especially widout my expressions) what it feels like to blog when you are all tensed up, just an hour before your technical presentation to your team :)  . With your teammates and your manager in foresight, and all the other poeple who are gonna throw questions at you, questions that you only hope you can answer (else….there s gonna be a frown and a stare only…yeah from you), with a hungry stomach making all sorts of noises for you do not have the habbit of having your breakfast ( as most BITSians do…so an advice to you all u guys out there….change this habbit as soon as you can for it can land you up in some trouble), the ast thing you can think to do at this point of time is “Blog”.

While many would prefer referring to the slides that they have prepared for the presentation or goin through the documents involved agian, ask themselves possible questions that might pop up, and get all the more tensed up, me on the other hand am trying hard to take my mind off that catastrophic even thats gonna follow and here i am …posting. And believe me for the past 10-15 min, even i was oding what other would ve done(as i sd above), and was biting my nails……but not now…….may b even you shud try this……

hey another Disclaimer: It is evident that you are gonna get loads of work at office and little breaks….but loads of time enough for you to blog…..whoaaa mannnnnnnnnnn…… doesnt happen at my office ;)

Have you though about it?

Maybe I’ve been the problem,
maybe I’m the one to blame,
but even when I turn it off and blame myself the outcome feels the same.

Hmmmmn…how many you have actually seen your nail or ur hair growing?(atleast one?).I know u will think i am insane to be asking this.Have you ever thought abt it? The road is full of vehicles, every RTC bus is overcrowded and yet you step into one such bus, for else you will be late for your office. Have you ever thought why you do it? What is the need for you to do that? i know everyone wants to reach office in time, but isnt that a huge compromise? ;) You reach office , hungry stomach, and paddle you way to the pantry to grab a half roasted sandwiches or hard to break dosas……why do you do it? Have you ever though about it? I know you would probable say u need fuel too to work.

Dont you think the world is full of problems? But have you ever thought about any as your own? i mean who in this world has time to think about all this. Nevermind, atleast you dint ask “why am i even reading this guys blog?”

There are many things to ponder about but we hardly have time n energy to think about them. Thoughts those can go beyond sustanence are not entertained by most of us. But….again its having thought about it or not is what really matters.

Well i guess this completes my most complexly put thought as for now…. guess i need a lot of work to put things better………. :)

I get paid cz i m on my way to office when people take their dogs out on a walk

The buzz word for me in the last 45 days…BMTC……heheheh…never tried to even find out what that stands for….may b i guess thats “bangalore metro transportation corporation”…..blah blah. Well one fine day i was up at my usual time 0630 hrs, and having caught my 0730 hrs bus, i glanced out of the window to see rich, not so old ladies, taking their dogs out for a walk. hmmnnn……imagine what else they could so early in the morning, when we the poor IT professions were on our way to our offices. Life of an average IT professional, who does not have a bike, starts as early as mine does. well, people who own their own transportation can relax a lot and come to the office at their will….as early as 1100 hrs. But people like me cannot afford to miss their 0800 hrs bus , bcz the next bus would be only 30 min later and will take you to the office 90 min late than the usual time, thanx to the enormous traffic that flows in on the roads this time, every single day. This would mean you will not be greeted by the plate hard to break POORIES or the idli-vadas , and start off with you work.

This is life….a new chapter has begun indeed. New challenges right from the time you get up….gone are those days when you could get up at 1100 and go to the mess to have your breakfast and lunch( both are the same here) and play CS… :) , whole day long. Meeting friends on weekends only, and of course a bit of bowling helps. Yet here i am in memoirs of those 7 semesters and the FOG trying to prepare for my technical seminar tomorrow……….i miss u all….
